West Central MN Regional Prevention Coordinator

Kelly has been the Regional Prevention Coordinator for West Central, MN since 2015 and has committed her career to helping young people make safe and healthy choices.   Prior to this position, she was the Coalition Coordinator for the Working Together Coalition and Probation Officer both located in Cass County, MN.  During these experiences, Kelly has had the opportunity to engage communities to in using the Strategic Prevention Framework and implement environmental and evidence-based strategies aimed to prevent and reduce substance use among youth.   Kelly also has expertise in the area of positive youth development and applies this knowledge and experience into her work with communities to reduce risky choices, by increasing what young people need to succeed. 

Kelly is a Certified Prevention Professional Reciprocal and has a Bachelor’s Degree from Minnesota State University-Moorhead in Criminal Justice with an emphasis in Psychology and Minor in Sociology. 

Kelly lives with her husband John and children Logan and Everly in Hackensack, MN.

The West Central MN RPC (Region 3) is hosted by the Pine River-Backus Family Center, located in Pine River, MN.  Their mission is Strengthening Families and Building a Strong Community so that all families have what they need to reach their full potential and contribute to their community.  The Family Center strongly invests their programming into prevention by starting their programming prenatally with their certified Home Visiting-Parent Child Home Program, have co-located public health programs to keep families healthy, implement the Parenting Love & Logic Way curriculum, and providing Family Support through hosting the local food shelf, which reduces barriers and stress with families.  The Family Center is also the host for the substance abuse prevention Working Together Coalition.  For more information about their work, please visit their website here:
